How to Do a Faucet Replacement, and Why You Need One

1. Faucet Replacement: How to Guide

If you’re attempting a do-it-yourself faucet replacement, follow these simple steps.

1. Turn off the water supply.

2. If your faucet came with a matching drain, you'll need to remove the existing one. Place a bucket underneath to catch any loose water, then remove the p-trap.

3. Insert the new faucet through the mounting holes. Don’t forget to tighten the nuts.

4. If you’re replacing the drain as well, install the body and rubber washer through the top of the sink. Make sure to apply a bit of silicone between the rubber gasket and the bottom of the sink.

5. Connect the water supply lines to the faucet shanks. Next, connect the supply lines to the water valves.

6. Check for leaks.

At Watersmart, we can repair and install any type of faucet you have or want, including:

  • Compression Faucets: A compression faucet has two separate handles, one for hot and one for cold water.

  • Ceramic-Disk Faucets: A ceramic-disk faucet has one central, swivelling arm that you swing from hot to cold and it contains a ceramic cylinder inside.

  • Cartridge Faucets: A cartridge faucet also has one central swivelling arm and a cartridge inside instead of a ceramic cylinder. It often has a decorative cap.

  • Ball Faucets: Like the ceramic and cartridge faucets, ball faucets have single swivelling arms but they contain a ball bearing inside.

2. Why you need a faucet replacement

There are a few reasons why you might require a faucet replacement.

first off, you may have a leaky faucet. Luckily, this is usually a simple and inexpensive repair. But, over time, a dripping faucet can become incredibly annoying and it can waste a lot of water.

So, it's better to do something about your leaky faucet before it turns into a bigger problem.

Or, maybe you want to update the look of your kitchen or bathroom. Installing new faucets is an affordable step in the right direction.

A stylish faucet can instantly bring a breath of fresh air to an outdated room.

Whether you are renovating your current kitchen and bathroom, or you are building a new home, new faucets are a great touch.

Finally, your faucet might be corroded or full of scale buildup from hard water. Therefore, it’s nearing the end of its lifecycle and needs to be replaced. Keep in mind that installing a water softener will eliminate hard water and reduce wear and tear on your new faucet.

Have a leak or need a new look? Consider a faucet replacement.
