Brita Product Review
Faucet Water Filtration Systems

The Brita faucet filtration system easily attaches in minutes with no tools required.
The multistage filter reduces chlorine (which affects taste and odour) and lead (which may or may not be present in your water system) and has an added layer to trap sediment.
All that’s left once the process is complete is great-tasting, cleaner water running out of your tap.
According to Faucet Mag, the Brita faucet filtration system ranks #1 for 2018:
"This particular filter system attaches onto the head of your faucet for well over 100 gallons worth of clean, filtered water to help keep you and your loved ones in tip-top shape throughout the year.
"Brita has attempted to make this particular filter as user-friendly as possible by allowing you to install it in a five-step process, with audible clicks to be heard as you rest the filter into place to ensure that it is installed and you get clean water as soon as possible."
The review adds there's also an indicator that shows you when you are in need of replacing the filter that performs well in testing, but the installation can be tricky and the filter is not overly reliable unless perfectly lined up.
Water Filter Bottles

Brita offers a 590 mL portable squeeze-bottle with replaceable water filter, as well as a 700 mL hard sided bottle that comes with a firm exterior, built-in straw and filter to allow for easy drinking and portability.
Both are BPA free and dishwasher safe and are said to replace up to 300 plastic water bottles (500 mL).
Brita water bottles have received an average 4.4/5 star review from users on Influenster. Here are some highlights of the user comments.
- "I love water but those plastic bottles are not always good for you so when Brita came out with this I knew I had to have it." in 24 reviews
- "Water is not as clean as you like when travelling and buying bottled water is a waste of money and not good for landfills " in 22 reviews
- "The water fountains at my job are nice and cold...but the water tastes gross....when I use my Brita water bottle...it tastes GREAT!" in 20 reviews
- "I like this water bottle because it fits very well into my hands & I don't drop it as often I also find this bottle is more portable then other water bottles on the market I use the water bottle every day." in 19 reviews
- "I got one of these before going to college and it's so much better than having to buy packs of water bottles constantly." in 17 reviews
Counter to that positivity, however, are complaints about the filter not working and the bottles being hard to drink out of.
Water Filter Pitchers & Dispensers
Brita water filter pitchers come in a variety of sizes, styles and colours. For those who don't have a reverse osmosis unit installed in their home, a water filter pitcher is an easy and convenient way to get clean, great-tasting water.
All of Brita's water filter pitchers are BPA-free and use replaceable filters; some come with electronic indicators, others with a manual system that serves as a reminder of when to change the filter.
Again, the filters don't purify water per se, but they do have two effects:
The activated carbon removes substances that may impair taste, such as chlorine and chlorine compounds.
The ion-exchange resin reduces the carbonate hardness (limescale) as well as copper and lead.
Reviewers at Your Best Digs recently ranked Brita's water filter pitcher #3 out of five, offering the following comments:
"The Brita filter doesn’t remove the number of contaminants a filter like ZeroWater does. The ergonomics of the pitcher weren’t particularly impressive either, especially when compared to our two top picks, the MAVEA and ZeroWater."
"While the Brita filter is sufficient for those who want an inexpensive and effective water filter, we think there are better options out there — namely, the MAVEA (discontinued) and ZeroWater pitchers."
Water Filter Cartridges
Each of the products named above would be rather useless without Brita's water filter cartridges, all of which are BPA-free and reduce chlorine (taste and odour) to keep your water tasting great.
They come in a variety of sizes in order to fit a faucet system, personal water bottle or pitcher, and are said to be able to remove up to 13 chemicals found in tap water.

A 2016 study out of Penn State concluded the following in regards to the use of Brita water filters:
"It’s safe to say that filters (usually) can take out some common molecules found in your water pipes. However, studies still found that sometimes filters can cause more harm than good, by creating even more bacteria over time. And, although boiling water may work, there is never a 100% guarantee that all toxins will filter out of your water."
"So, you will never truly take out all the chemicals found in tap water (unless, of course, you purchase a thousand dollar filtering system). And that’s okay, because usually, the water that comes out of our kitchen sinks isn’t too harmful anyway. Most people simply opt to use filters for personal taste."
