1. Determine The Source Of The Leak

There are a number of places that a faucet can leak from. In order to know how to fix the leak, you need to first determine where the leak is coming from. To find the source of the leak, look at where the water starts and trace it back to the point of origin of the water. It can also sometimes be helpful to turn the water on lightly, once you have items in place to catch the water, to see where the leak is coming from. Places to lookf for the leak include at the faucet nozzle (the aeroator), at the faucet handle (caused by a broken cartridge or leaking seat) and under the sink (caused by the drain, basket seal, the piping or the sink itself). In order to find the leak, it may sometimes require that you dismantle the faucet. If this is the case, we would suggest you contact a plumber assist with the repair

2. Replace The Leaking Component

a. Cartridge

To replace a cartridge simply remove the stem and handle of your faucet and remove the cartridge replacing it with the new one. To determine how to remove the handle and stem for your particular faucet search the internet for the manual or videos on your particular model. Here is a video of removing a faucet for a La Torre faucet.

b. Aerator

An Aerator rarely causes leaks when the water is off but can cause leaks when the water is on, spraying water erratically off to the sides like link the video below. Watch all the way to the end of this video to see how to fix this issue.

Testimonial

"We are new to the area and new to having hard water, and we recently purchased our water softener from this company after we received a marketing door knob hanger. From the moment we walked into the store, we were impressed with the attention and information we received. Having already had a home demonstration by another company, it was an easy decision to go with Watersmart Systems. The 2-man crew who came by to install we cheerful gentlemen, who gave us tips before leaving including one important warning -- the bathtub will be slippery! And sure enough, it was. Thank you Watersmart Systems."

c. Under Sink Piping

In many cases you will be able to stop a leak in the under sink piping by simply removing it, cleaning it and putting the pipes back together. What we recommend is that you do this and then place a bucket under the sink for a day to see if it leaks again. If it does not then you know you have solved your problem. If you do find water in the bucket you left under the sink then you know you need to buy new piping. To see how to do this watch the video below.

d. Drain

If you find your drain is the source of your leak then you will need to remove piping below your sink and the drain itself as well. This will take a significant amount of time but is very easy to do. Watch the video below to see how the sink drain is taken apart, the tools you will need and step by step instructions.

If you have a puncture in the sink basket you can also patch the puncture. Below is a video to view if this is your issue.

e. The Basket Seal

If you have determined your leak is a result of a broken seal between the sink and the drain basket or the gasket on the bottom of the drain watch the video below.
